Whiteshadow Interview

Whiteshadow is a TRUgaming Sponsored Streamer, and is also one of the most involved participants in our Discord server. He has been streaming since October of 2015, and has developed a fan base that has come to love not only his own streams, but also those featuring the amazing WIFEshadow.

Whiteshadow’s passion on-stream, eye-catching branding, persistence, and passion are just a few of the reasons that we are proud to partner with and support him in his stream dream. We managed to ask Whiteshadow a few questions about his streaming career, in hopes that his experiences and growth might be helpful for other streamers looking for inspiration and guidance.

Whiteshadow Interview conducted by TRU GreenChord

GreenChord: Hey Whiteshadow, thanks for agreeing to do this interview!

Whiteshadow001: Thanks for having me! I’d love to do more if you guys ever do!

GreenChord: So, what made you want to start streaming? What platforms do you focus on?

Whiteshadow001: KingGothalion actually inspired me to start streaming. I figured, why not try it? Since I used to be a pro gamer, gaming comes easy to me. I also love to entertain people, so they went hand in hand!

As for platforms, I focus on Twitch. Twitch will always be home, but recently I’ve picked up on Beam and dual streaming the two via Restream.io. I have my doubts about Beam, so I’m sticking with Twitch as I trust the platform.

GreenChord: What, if anything, do you feel has been key to your success on your streaming platform so far?

Whiteshadow001: Social media presence is the big one. But, I would say personality and being involved with multiple communities based around Twitch and streaming is a must-have as well. I’ve found involving yourself in both Twitter and Discord communities helps you to connect on a more personal level with the viewers, which is what you want to show as a streamer.

Be personal with people, and get to know them deeply. Doing this creates a whole new experience where people can feel more comfortable with you as a streamer. Viewers start engaging with you. This is what I strive to do every single time I stream! It also coincides with being consistent, because people like having a schedule.

GreenChord: Have you had any difficult seasons/experiences in your stream history? How did you overcome them?

Whiteshadow001: Oh boy. When I first started, I got really discouraged because I was literally working my tail off marketing and letting everyone I could talk to know that I was a streamer on Twitch and that I’d love for them to come watch. It’s hard work marketing yourself and I felt like it was going nowhere. A lot of my friends helped ease that pain, and I kept the stream going. For months I had 0 viewers, then all of a sudden, one week I had 5, maintained that for a few months, then boom 10 and now it varies depending on the night! I just maintained my composure and had fun and people came to chill.

One really bad night was when WIFEshadow had her 3rd ever stream. She was streaming and I was holding our daughter who I believe was 4 maybe 5 months old at the time, and this who we believed to be younger teenager came into the chat and said some pretty disgusting things towards her and the baby. I banned this kid’s 6 accounts (he kept creating new ones) and eventually found him on Twitter, warned him to never threaten my family again or else I would take legal action. Haven’t heard from him since and have been in contact with Twitch and Twitter since then.

GreenChord: What would be your biggest piece of advice for a newer streamer looking to find success?

Whiteshadow001: My largest piece of advice to a new streamer is don’t do this for money, have fun and stream games you love to play. Have a nice quality stream, but don’t break the bank building your setup either. I had the funds at the time to build a nice setup and have nice beautiful quality graphics, most people don’t. Do what you can and just have an absolute blast playing video games and goofing off. People will always know when you’re faking it. Also, don’t focus too much on the numbers (viewers, followers, etc.) as this will discourage you. Work with what you have and always always always have a blast 🙂

As for a sponsorship, maintain the highest quality you can muster. Show them (the company or sponsor in question) that you are valuable! Oh and please don’t feed them a sob story or write them a book about your life… It’s not a beauty pageant! Lol.

GreenChord: Is there anything else you would like to discuss about your stream/let readers know about?

Whiteshadow001: I’m a smaller streamer with goals in mind for my stream, ultimately I’d love to get partnered at some point, but I really just want everyone that comes to chill in chat to have an absolute blast. I’d like each and every viewer to know that subbing or tipping isn’t in any way shape or form required to be part of the community surrounding my channel. I see the viewers as more of a family/community and it will stay that way till I quit streaming or die, either one haha!

But seriously, I love each and everyone of you guys to pieces! I’d like to thank you all for being awesome and allowing WIFEshadow and myself make the viewers nights awesome!

PS: Everyone needs to buy a PS4 and play Destiny… I’m just sayin’ 😉

GreenChord: Thanks for taking the time to interview with us! You’ve definitely got a very interesting story to your stream, and we think you have a lot of potential to keep growing!
