Server Config[edit]

New Servers[edit]

By default 7D2D uses serverconfig.xml for server configuration on startup.
With the latest Alpha16 release of the game, any time you run the Steam Update command from your Game Control Panel,
it wipes out the serverconfig.xml file setting it back to default. This may change at any time depending on the number of
complaints the developers get.

To this end we have implemented a custom command line that uses TRUserverconfig.xml and have also made changes in this
file for the "AdminFileName" property, we have set it to TRUserveradmin.xml.

  • NOTE: in the TRUserverconfig.xml config file is a GameName variable.
    <property name="GameName" value="TRUgaming.com"/>
The VALUE may only contain the following characters: A-Z, a-z, 0-9, dot (.), underscore (_), dash (-) and space ( )
If you use anything else in this field, it will cause your server to crash.

Existing Servers[edit]

For our existing customers, before you run the Steam Update in your Game Control Panel, we suggest you make a backup copy of your
serverconfig.xml file. After the update replace the serverconfig.xml file with your backup copy. Make sure you take a few
extra minutes and verify the file contents to make sure you have the right file active.

Setting Up Server Welcome Screen[edit]

  1. Make sure the game server isn't running
  2. Edit PCServer-KFGame.ini: (Use Text Edit option )
Find this part and edit it, here is the default one
    Code:
    BannerLink=http://art.tripwirecdn.com/TestItemIcons/MOTDServer.png
ServerMOTD=Welcome to our server. \n \n Have fun and good luck!
    WebsiteLink=http://killingfloor2.com/
BannerLink should be a PNG (save it > 8bit) image
ServerMOTD is the message display under the BannerLink image. You can use "\n" to create a new line like in the default message.
WebsiteLink is the url of your website (if you edit this from the webadmin, it resets to a blank value after saving)
  3. Save, start the server, enjoy you welcome screen.

Wipe Server[edit]

Option 1[edit]

  1. Stop server
  2. Using your File Manager, delete the map folder (whichever one you have set to save the world in)
    • By default on the TRUgaming servers, look under your 7dtdsaves,<Gameworld> folder
    • You will see a TRUgaming folder, delete this.
    • This should delete Player profiles as well as any map gen that has been saved on the server
  3. Run Steam Update and have it download the latest game files
  4. Install any custom modifications if you've remove that folder
Edit your customserverconfig if you're using Alloc
  5. Start server

Option 2[edit]

  1. Stop your server.
  2. Using the Configuration Editor or the Text Editor, edit the serverconfigmain.xml file
    • Find the line:
    • <property name="GameName" value="My Game"/>
  3. Change the name to something else instead of "TRUgaming" or whatever is currently there on your server.
    • This method will preserve the files for your old game, so by changing the name back, you can go back to the old game as well.
  4. Start the server back up and it should be a new game / map.

Make Yourself an admin[edit]

Method 1 - Manually via config file

  1. Login to your game control panel
  2. Click "Configuration Files"
  3. Open "7dtdsaves\serveradmin.xml" by click "Text Editor" to the right.
  4. Find the line that looks like this : "<admin steamID="XX" permission_level="0" />"
  5. Replace XX with your Steam64ID.
  6. Once added, you will need to remove the comment codes so that the line looks like this "<admin steamID="xx" permission_level="0" />

Method 2 - Via the web console

  1. Login to your game control panel
  2. Log into your 7DTD Web Control Panel (details are configured from the config file)
  3. Type "admin add <playerID> <permission level>" (replace playerID with player's Steam64ID and 0 for admin or 1 for moderator)

Prevent your server from restarting at day 0 after a server restart.[edit]

  1. Open console in game and type "Shutdown"
  2. Restart your server via the game panel

Installing Mods[edit]

THINGS TO REMEMBER

  • BACK UP YOUR SERVER FIRST!!
  • Some mods make changes to the same files. For exmaple: A lot of the HUD mods make changes to the \Data\Config\GUi\windows.xml file. So if you try to install multiple HUD mods it will not work.
The last one installed will simply overwrite the existing copy.
Well, you may get it to work, if you know XML and want to spend time comparing the two files and making the appropriate changes to a single 'master' windows.xml file.
However, this may cause more errors or undesirable effects.
  • You may also need to add the mod to your local installation of the game.
This becomes very evident when you launch the game with the new mods and the graphics or functions you hoped would be there are not

Installing Modlets[edit]

  • With the introduction of Alpha 17, the concept of a modlet was introduced. Modlets are smaller mods that don't over-write the vanilla XML files, but are loaded from the Mods folder.
  • Not all modlets will have the different folders; it really depends on what the modlet does. For example, an XUI modlet wouldn't necessarily have an ItemIcons or Resources.
'However, all modlets will have a ModInfo.xml
  • Modlets are installed the same on Client as they are on a Server.

Modlets Installation Steps[edit]

  1. Download the modlet you want
  2. Extract the modlet, and look for the ModInfo.xml for each mod you want.
  3. Create a folder called Mods at the top level of the game folder on your PC (...steam/steamapps/common/7 Days To Die)
    7dayscommon.png
  4. Create a folder called Mods at the top level of the game folder on your server
    7daysserver.png
Once you find ModInfo.xml file, copy that /Mods/<modlet> folder from your PC to the /Mods folder on your server
    Note:
Do not copy the entire contents of the folder, but rather the folder that has the ModInfo.xml
Example: FarmLifeMod
\FarmLifeMod-281-1-1-0-1552759628
  \__MACOSX
  \FarmLife2Mod
    \Config
    \ItemIcons
    \Resources
    Localization.txt
    ModInfo.xml

In this example, you would only copy the 'FarmlifeMod' folder to your server 'NOT' the 'FarmLifeMod-281-1-1-0-1552759628' folder

Client Side:
   ...\steam\steamapps\common\7 Days To Die
     \Mods
        \FarmLife2Mod
        \Config
        \ItemIcons
        \Resources
        Localization.txt
        ModInfo.xml

Server Side:
     \logs
     \Mods
        \FarmLife2Mod
        \Config
        \ItemIcons
        \Resources
        Localization.txt
        ModInfo.xml
     \Mono

Alpha 17 Notes[edit]

Server Info[edit]

Random World Generation (RWG)[edit]

  • If using GameWorld type RWG (options are Navezgane and RWG)
WorldGenSeed and GameName MUST be the same

Server Connection Failures[edit]

  • If connection to server fails, try removing steamnetworking as a disabled function from the TRUserverconfig.xml
    <property name="ServerDisabledNetworkProtocols" value="LiteNetLib"/> - is currently the default

Client side Performance[edit]

17.4 Update[edit]

From the official release notes:

  • If you are suffering from low FPS,please type “gfx pp enable 0” in console, to get a possible performance gain
  • Memory may not clear properly after leaving the server, please restart the game, if you run into this issue

Older Updates[edit]

  • Turn V-Sync off on your client
  • Using the in-game launcher, instead of Direct X-11 try GL-Core
  • Change FOV - Press F1 and enter sg OptionsFieldOfViewNew 100 (do this before joining your server)
